Meals With the Master III: A New Option

Jesus did lots of ministry during meals. Jesus attended dinners and he attended banquets.  He went to people's homes, and he accepted many invitations, from many different people.
   Throughout the gospels we find that Jesus ate with Jews AND Gentiles, he ate with friends and family, those who were downcast and those who were leaders and rulers. He ate with his followers and those who were his foes. Those that were close to him and those that were perfect strangers.  He ate with people who were repentant, but also with those who were defiant, with those who were ritually unclean and morally unclean.  He dined with people of EVERY sort!
Jesus engaged in people's daily lives and he did it through meals. 
Join us throughout this series, Meals With the Master, as we explore the means and mode of Jesus' ministry here on earth.  What can we learn from this precedent he set that later became the pattern of the early church?

The Wise Still Fear Him

We are living in a day with little regard for authority. We no longer respect elected officials. We criticize and attack any & all. It’s as if we’ve lost all regard for the offices held.
Acceptance & prevalence of Social media attacks have fueled more banality, more frequency & more intensity in our verbal barrages.
To be noticed in our attack environment, comments become increasingly vile. Even when words aren’t released, many carry an overt disregard for leadership. Opposing commentators spew language that incites listeners to disrespect, dislike & disregard.
If we allow them, commentators will work us into an emotional lather that ruins our day.
How does this atmosphere impact out attitude toward Jesus, faith, & congregation? Can this atmosphere cause us to devalue the congregation? Can general disrespect follow me into worship? Does this attack culture make me suspicious of Christ? Or even offensive toward Him?

Succeeding in Satan’s City

What happens when a city or a people are TOO sinful? What if your city is plagued with gun violence, drugs, and prostitution? How are we to respond? At what point is a city or a people not worth saving?
Revelations 2:12-17
Pergamos: A city where SIN is king.
Pergamos is located on a sharp rugged hill rising 1,000 feetabove the surrounding plain. With its public buildings built onterraces on a steep hillside and multiple temples as part of itsacropolis, Pergamos was one of the most beautiful cities in itstime.
The city had numerous temples dedicated to Greek deities aswell as Egyptian deities.
Here’s what Jesus declared about the city in Revelations 2:13 (NKJV)
13 “I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’sthrone is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny Myfaith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr,who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. (NLT: inSatan’s city)

Signs of the Next Wave

Having lived in the PNW for a decade, I’ve often been intrigued by surfers. As our waters here are typically cold, it didn’t cross my mind that surfing would be practiced here. Of course, temperature doesn’t dictate surfing, WAVES facilitate surfing.
